A good story

This is a new author for me and I have to say that the book will start out slow and hard to stay focused but the more you read the better it gets. The characters in the book will range in different personalities and what they do. The main characters Josie & Runner have battles that they will face. Josie is trying not to have her father interfere with her college life being know as the QB daughter however she has some people who won't let that go. She has two best friends that won't let her father overcome their judgement on her and while she does her best to stay away from the football team, she has two QB's that want to be with her. She has battles that she will need to face but Runner won't let her face them alone. Runner is not your average QB and he has a past that nobody knows about until he has no choice but to let Josie in. They both will face everything together.
Overall this book has so much drama and college life mixed into it. You have to look past the childish behavior from some characters. It is a good story once you get into it.

What a fun and sexy story

What a fun and sexy story! The Backup is a fantastic read. The style reminds me a lot of Jojo Moyes' stories but with some very sexy scenes - and that is a huge bonus. The main character Josie is a smart, young and sexy college student. I enjoyed that she was unapologetic about her desires and in pursuing the young men around her. Josie has tons of charm and it becomes obvious why the two college quarterbacks are interested in her. The story follows Josie through her first semester at school and involves all the fun of that time in life - parties, drinking, bars, studying, friendships, breakups, parents, hometown friends, and of course..football games!

I really loved this story

I really loved this story! It was one of the more honest portrayals of college romance, in my opinion. Do I think it had some problems? Of course. But overall, this was a book I had a hard time putting down.
Warning, things get slightly spoiler-y ahead:
There wasn't a huge basis for why Josie initially picked Runner over Mark since there weren't a lot of conversations involved. However, Josie felt more of a kinship with Runner's family situation and Mark sometimes creeped her out with how sleazy he could be. (I saw some reviews implying this was an issue, so I thought I would throw my perspective out there.) Granted, I began to prefer Mark as the story went on, but this isn't my journey, it's Josie's. And college freshmen don't always make the best decisions.
I thought Maddy and Elle were super invasive and kind of abrasive when I was first introduced to them, but quickly got over that and grew to love both of their characters. They weren't afraid to tell Josie the truth. And Josie really needed those reality checks sometimes. They were also super funny, especially Elle!
Now, back to Josie and Runner. Together, they had this passionate relationship that was also sometimes rocky and plagued with insecurity. That's real and honest to me. Not the perfect relationships where everything is magically solved in their lives once the other person arrives (though I do enjoy reading those stories too). Do I think this is a forever relationship? Absolutely not. In fact, I would love to read a book about the moment when they realize this and move on. Runner is incredibly insecure and it plays itself out through his treating Josie like crap. Sometimes she fought back and sometimes she ignored it. That is not the recipe for a long-lasting relationship. But it is something that I feel a lot of people have at least once in their lives, so it's relatable. But you don't marry it ;-).
This is why I grew to prefer Mark for Josie, because he didn't seem like the type of guy to do this to Josie. I am happy he'll be getting his happily ever after next, cause he deserves it!
This was an amazing read and I can't wait to see what comes next!
