Suddenly the former loner with the bad reputation has someone to try for—his girlfriend, Kenzie. Never mind that he's forbidden to see her again.

But when your name is Ethan Chase and your sister is one of the most powerful faeries in the Nevernever, "normal" simply isn't to be. For Ethan's nephew, Keirran, is missing, and may be on the verge of doing something unthinkable in the name of saving his own love. Something that will fracture the human and faery worlds forever, and give rise to the dangerous fey known as the Forgotten. As Ethan's and Keirran's fates entwine and Keirran slips further into darkness, Ethan's next choice may decide the fate of them all.

Gr 8 Up-Try as he might, Ethan Chase cannot escape the Fey. They kidnapped him as a child and now, at 18, he has been pulled back into the Nevernever, a realm he hoped never to see again. His previously unknown half-fey nephew has disappeared, and Ethan may be the only one who can locate him. Unaware of the prophecy foretelling his death at Kierran's hands (which is why his sister tried to keep the two apart), Ethan agrees to help Kierran find a way to save his love, Annwyl, from fading out of existence. When forays into dark magic fail to do anything more than prolong Annwyl's fate, their quest leads them deep into the Summer and Winter realms on an adventure that could mean death for them both. Once again, Kagawa utilizes forbidden love to drive her heroes into dangerous and unfamiliar territory. With Ethan's prophesied death looming over the story, readers will find themselves continuously on the edges of their seats. "Iron Fey" fans will revel in the reappearance of familiar characters and new readers will be drawn deep into a new and dangerous world. The final pages will leave readers breathlessly awaiting the next volume. From Booklist
When 17-year-old Ethan returns from finding his sister, the Iron Queen, in the complex and compelling Invisible World Kagawa has created in the Iron Fey series, he finds that his new, fully mortal girlfriend, Kenzie, is hospitalized, thanks to the leukemia that has weakened her immune system. In spite of Kenzie’s father’s sharp warning against Ethan in her life and pushed by the appearance of Ethan’s nephew’s true love, who is also in a weakened state, Ethan and Kenzie return to the fey realm to find Kierran and help him restore his love’s life force. Kagawa never loses the pace or character development of her imaginative tale, and readers will be both absorbed and satisfied with the twists, turns, and gender politics of this latest episode. The story is good...the characters not so much.
By BookGeek
I am not a fan of stories like ALICE IN WONDERLAND. You know, "let's fall down the rabbit hole to a dangerous and wonderful place ...and oh! A strange, but interesting creature that's here to help or harm us for absolutely no reason!" Those kinds of stories. The IRON FEY series is like that and now it's spin-off series has a similar vein. The difference between Alice and Ethan Chase is that I care about him beyond the fact that something weird happens to him. He's a kid who has been dragged into the faery world and they will not let him go. No matter where he turns, Fae are always there to force him into chaos.

I enjoyed most of this book, I did, but the glaring lack of character conviction and the blatant manipulation by the author makes it impossible for me to give it a high rating. There is no real true heart or emotion in this book. It's all talk and because it's all talk I have an issue with the ending. Characters make huge choices. End of the world, war between all fey, kind of choices and I don't believe it. They do it for love, but none of the relationships feel genuine to me. It's all author desires and no true evidence on the page. Kagawa tells us they are in love, but never shows us and the showing is what gives us emotional entanglements to story and character.
My biggest issue with IRON TRAITOR is that the female characters are there as a beacon for the real characters to focus their love and are useless beyond that. I call Ethan, Keirran, and even Mr. Chase "real," because they are well rounded characters who have clear desires, motivations and their presence has a real influence on the plot. The girls on the other hand are there to give their male counter parts heart. Annwyl is weak and pathetic, admittedly she has a reason in this book, but she was the same in THE LOST PRINCE. She is always a step behind in figuring out what's happening and she is constantly overly grateful for the fact that people care about her. Keirran's every step is to save her and she claims to care, but she neither fights for her life or relinquishes it to save Keirran from ruining his life in his desire to save her.
Kenzie is a formulaic `I am woman' character who always stomps her foot in feminist rage when Ethan wants her to stay home, but contributes nothing for 90% of the book. Literally, Kenzie has a scene in the beginning where she successfully negotiates with the Fey, but spends the rest of the book hiding behind rocks or getting Ethan injured in his role as her protector. Ethan comes out the romantic hero in his vow to step in front of a dragon to save Kenzie, while she is the annoying busy body who is risking both their lives just so she can say it was her choice. Add to that Ethan's mom who comes off as an irrational child of a parent while her husband is not only rational, but also understanding with a dash of support and you have a book with useless females.
It's amazing to me that the woman who created the awesome
Allison Sekemoto, created these women. It was almost like writing a book from a close minded male.
Kagawa's relationships would be more interesting if she actually gave us love stories. In all three of her series, characters are in "love," but I don't buy it. Keirran is willing to burn the world to save Annwyl, but they are barely together and he never checks in on her, so it's hard to actually believe their love. Ethan loves Kenzie, but there is not a lick of chemistry between them that would make me believe that they are not best friends. They are not in love, in my opinion and it's difficult for me to understand why the author is trying so hard to make it a love match.

One last complaint about Kenzie. I think she is one of the most horrible characters I have ever read. Not only is she useless, she is selfish and a fool. She's a fool, because she is always giving her opinions and advising Ethan when she has no idea what she is talking about. She doesn't have the experience to back up anything she says. Like, at all. She uses the fact that Ethan has been so isolated and lonely to her advantage. She'll be like "this is what a good friend does" and because he thinks he loves her and has no experience with it, he believes her. She is partially to blame for the explosive cliffhanger of an ending.

And the cliffhanger is explosive. It's also infuriating and confusing, because I do not know where the rest of the series is going. Or how it will make sense.

If you love the Iron Fey series you will enjoy this book and be heart sick at the end.

Sixth entry into "The Iron Fey" series suffers from repetition
By Suzi Hough
**This review contains spoilers for previous books in the series.**

After his second encounter with the fairies, Ethan tries once more to block them out, but when one of his companions from a previous trip appears in his home, seeking help, he realizes that he can no longer turn his back on events in the Nevernever - especially when he learns that his nephew Kierran has gone missing. When Ethan and his girlfriend Kenzie catch up with Kierran at the New Orleans goblin market, they find him playing a most dangerous game. Kierran is desperate to save the love of his life, the exiled Summer fairy Annwyl who is fading slowly into nothingness, and he will make any bargain that will guarantee her life. Ethan must once again journey into the Nevernever in order to protect his impetuous nephew from himself. A prophecy has long existed that Kierran will be the cause of Ethan's death. Can Ethan trust Kierran or is he walking straight into a betrayal?

This is what happens in "The Iron Traitor": Someone (usually Ethan or Kierran) tells the rest of the group that they must Go It Alone. Someone else (nearly always the significant other) wants to know why. Person #1 explains it is to Protect You; Significant Other wails that It's My Choice and I Choose You! Everyone kisses and makes up, only to have the same conversation an hour later.

Seriously, I lost track of how many times Ethan told Kenzie, "I can't take you with me. It's too dangerous!" only to have her respond, "You're just like everyone else, treating me like I'm sick!" Well, yes, Kenzie. You have cancer. YOU ARE SICK. The major reason she seems to like Ethan is because he always eventually caves to her badgering that he treat her "like a normal girl" and pretend he doesn't notice that she isn't physically strong enough to adventure in the Nevernever.

But you want to talk about people throwing themselves in danger for love, you've got to look at Kierran, who WILL NOT LET ANNWYL DIE even after she's come to peace with her fate. Personally, I think it's inadvisable to destroy your soul in order to let another live, but if self-destruction doesn't bother Kierran I suppose it's his choice. But when you are willing to set the fairie courts at war and potentially destroy the balance of the fairy universe for the sake of one person who doesn't really want it- well, that's just selfish. Kierran's a terrible person.

It does make that darn prophecy seem all the more probable, though. Speaking of the prophecy, Ethan finally learns about it in this book, and it's fascinating how it affects his character. All his life, he's thought that Meghan didn't want to see her old family because she didn't love them, but now he's convinced that she was trying to protect them from her son, Kierran - all because of the prophecy she heard when she was younger. His frustration and anger toward his sister redirect to his nephew. But in spite of this, Ethan tries to help Kierran on his quest anyway. As we see more and more of the ugly side of Kierran's personality, Ethan's suppressed goodness rises to the surface. By the end of the book, I found myself liking Ethan and strongly disliking Kierran - which is more or less the opposite of how I felt at the end of The Lost Prince (The Iron Fey).

(Side note: Since "The Iron Traitor" returned to the naming convention used for the rest of the books of the series, I'm left wondering this: Why wasn't the previous book called "The Iron Prince"?)

This would be a lousy place to start reading this series, but if you've been reading the The Iron Fey Boxed Set books than this is an important addition to the story, because we're finally seeing where that prophecy was leading when it was pronounced back in the "Iron's Prophecy" novella.

The Iron Traitor Review
By Emily @ Falling for YA
One of my biggest pet peeves is when authors spend too much time explaining to you what happened in the last book. This bothered me when I read The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead, almost ruining the book for me. And this re-capping is bothering me again with The Iron Traitor. So much time was spent reminding me what happened in The Lost Prince that I kept wondering when the action was finally going to begin in The Iron Traitor. Then when things finally started to take a turn in the right direction Kagawa leaves us on a terrible cliffhanger.

I don’t think I would have been bother by all of the reminders if I had better connected with the characters. The second book should make me love the characters even more then the first book did. In the The Lost Prince I was introduced to Ethan, Keirran, Annwyl, and Kenzie. This book should have made me love them. Instead, I found myself getting annoyed with Kenzie constantly butting in; Annwyl playing the fragile flower, and Keirran blindly charging in to situations before thinking. The only person who didn’t get on my nerves was Ethan.

One of the things I loved the most about The Lost Prince was that some of our favorite characters played a role in the story. In this installment Ash, Meagan, Puck, and Grimm do make brief appearances, but they are very brief.

Honestly, in a lot of ways The Iron Traitor was just a space filler to get us to book three. Nothing new really happened in the plot. I think we are meant to have fallen for Annwyl and cared about the relationship between Annwyl and Keirran. Unfortunately, I never found their romance believable. I didn’t understand why these two characters wanted to be together so badly, or why Keirran loved Annwyl so much. She has never really given Keirran a reason to care. I actually wished they would have just let her fade.

Okay, okay, that came out a bit harsh. But honestly, I don’t really care for her as a character. I do hope she grows some kind of a backbone in book 3 though. I also hope we finally get to the mystery of the Lost Fey and their queen.

Despite not really enjoying this installment I will probably continue the series. I am a sucker for The Iron Fey. It was my guilty pleasure and this spin-off series has the general iron fey structure. Although, without the same heart and soul. Hopefully Kagawa can make me love these characters in the next book. I know if a writer can do it, she is more then up to the challenge.

At most a "sketch" of what is essential.
By Coyote
First, the paperback is 162 pages, not the 208 claimed . . . it is thin in physical size and thin in content. The illustrations are poorly done, the simplest computer-style graphics--no "real" art. Color photographs are small, ganged together, and clustered in a set of pages far from the references to them. The photographs seem to have been selected from what was available more than how best they illustrate the concept or feature.

Admittedly, at 162 pages, it cannot compare to the primary ornithology texts in the field, but at the price of this small paperback, you would be better advised to purchase the 382 page "Cambridge Encyclopedia of Ornithology (A Cambridge Reference Book)" ($15) and the 352 page Manual of Ornithology: Avian Structure and Function ($30) for the same combined price of this small paperback --more than 700 pages of authoritative information, fine art and photographs for the same price as "Essential Ornithology" which has the content and structure of a $20 paperback at best . . . selling for $45.

What Was Contemporary Art? (MIT Press), by Richard Meyer

Contemporary art in the early twenty-first century is often discussed as if the very idea of art that is contemporary is new. Yet all works of art were once contemporary. In What Was Contemporary Art? Richard Meyer reclaims the contemporary from historical amnesia, and gives the contemporary its own art history. By exploring episodes in the study, exhibition, and reception of early twentieth-century art and visual culture, Meyer retrieves moments in the history of once-current art and redefines "the contemporary" as a condition of being alive to and alongside other moments, artists, and objects.

A generous selection of images, many in color -- from works of fine art to museum brochures and magazine covers -- support and extend Meyer's narrative. These works were contemporary to their own moment. Now, in Meyer's account, they become contemporary to ours as well.

Review

In this deft and engaging account, Richard Meyer charts an entirely new path through the twentieth century to elucidate how 'the contemporary' has always been an anxious matter for art history. What Was Contemporary Art? is richly researched and persuasively argued, a book whose far-ranging theoretical implications are driven by an urgent attention to history. Whether looking to the past or speculating about the future, after reading Meyer's book we'll never think about contemporary art the same way again.

(Julia Bryan-Wilson, Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art, University of California, Berkeley)

At a time when we are intoxicated by instant access to the present and when history seems 'passé,' it is rewarding to encounter a book like Richard Meyer's What Was Contemporary Art?, which goes behind the cultural branding and flattening of terms like 'modern,' 'post-modern,' and 'post-post' to bring back the full complexity of the texture of those references. By analyzing several key figures and events of American cultural life in the late twentieth century, Meyer not only makes our past history exciting, complicated, and humorous, he also shows how linked -- often unconsciously -- our present is to our past, our history. This work should and will be discussed not only by the new generation who bank on the present, but also by older generations who often…forget.

(Serge Guilbaut, Professor of Art History, Visual Art and Theory, University of British Columbia)

Amidst the clamor over the increasingly disproportionate attention to contemporary art in the field of art history, Richard Meyer draws our attention to the history of contemporary art -- that is, to how the terms modern and contemporary were reckoned with in the past. In the process, he uncovers unexpected stories about a Wellesley College trip to a candy factory, Persian wall frescoes shown in watercolor copies at the Museum of Modern Art, and a manifesto issued by the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston decrying modern art as chicanery. What Was Contemporary Art? implicitly asks, 'Just what is contemporary art?'

(Douglas Crimp, author of "Our Kind of Movie": The Films of Andy Warhol)

Hard-hitting critical concerns blend into the narrative, the minutia of historical debates providing an opportunity to broaden our own art-historical moment and consider its possibilities.

(Publishers Weekly)

If, in recent years, the notion of a 'contemporary art' has attained something approaching a stable definition, then Richard Meyer's new book... sets out to recall a time when such a consensus was not yet possible.... By harking back to debates in the US much earlier in the century, Meyer's important intervention sets out to disturb and destabilize such a neat periodization. Eschewing the more theoretical speculations of Alberro and Smith in favour of a series of engagingly written narratives drawn from the history of the contemporary in American art, Meyer follows a path that is broadly chronological but full of interesting diversions, teasing out a series of provocative implications along the way in a tone at once warm and wry.

The Expositor's Bible Commentary (Vol 5) Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, by Frank E. Gaebelein

The Gold Medallion Award-winning Expositor's Bible Commentary is a major contribution to the study and understanding of the Scriptures. Providing pastors and Bible students with a comprehensive and scholarly tool for the exposition of the Scriptures and the teaching and proclamation of their message, this twelve-volume reference work has become a staple of seminary and college libraries and pastors' studies worldwide. The seventy-eight contributors come from the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Australia, and New Zealand, and from many denominations, including Anglican, Baptist, Brethren, Methodist, Nazarene, Presbyterian, and Reformed. They represent the best in evangelical scholarship committed to the divine inspiration, complete trustworthiness, and full authority of the Bible. The Expositor's Bible Commentary uses the New International Version for its English text, but also refers freely to other translations and to the original languages. Each book of the Bible has, in addition to its exposition, an introduction, outline, and bibliography. Notes on textual questions and special problems are correlated with the expository units; transliteration and translation of Semitic and Greek words make the more technical notes accessible to readers unacquainted with the biblical languages. In matters where marked differences of opinion exist, commentators, while stating their own convictions, deal fairly and irenically with opposing views. Brief, but good
By R. Thomas
This is a brief commentary, but I think it is a good supplement to a more thorough work. The brevity of it is succinct, to the point. I find this of value because in my work if there are too many thorough works I have to wade through, I might be apt to not use it so much.

I really like the introductory material.

Review of set, not specific volume
By Paul Forster
Let me start by saying that I have owned the full 12-volume set for about a year and use it quite frequently as a resource. To be fair, I have yet to use this particular volume. However, as there seem to be no competent reviews on the set as a whole, I did want to add my impressions of this terrific resource.

I can say that I'm very satisfied with my purchase of the 12 volumes in this set. Every portion has been quite helpful, and this is an amazingly simple and inexpensive way to assemble a good library of commentaries on the entire Bible. Obviously the commentaries are not as thorough as one may find in other series, such as the excellent (although not yet quite complete) "New International Commentary on the New Testament" or a similar series. However, for most Christians who teach or lead small groups in their churches, this set can serve as a great resource to get started with, and one that can easily be supplimented with specific volumes that treat a book of the Bible in greater depth as those books are needed. Additionally, this resource can be more useful than a larger volume in situations where one is interested in looking at a few chapters of scripture at a time, or where one just needs to understand what a verse or two might mean. Thanks to the very clear and practical verse by verse organization, it's a terrific tool to do just that.

Also, I will add that (at the time of this writing) it should be possible to buy the entire set for around $150 or less, so I would suggest shopping a bit if you plan to purchase all 12 volumes.

Strongly recommended.

Everyone Here Spoke Sign Language: Hereditary Deafness on Martha's Vineyard, by Nora Ellen Groce

From the seventeenth century to the early years of the twentieth, the population of Martha's Vineyard manifested an extremely high rate of profound hereditary deafness. In stark contrast to the experience of most deaf people in our own society, the Vineyarders who were born deaf were so thoroughly integrated into the daily life of the community that they were not seen--and did not see themselves--as handicapped or as a group apart. Deaf people were included in all aspects of life, such as town politics, jobs, church affairs, and social life. How was this possible?

On the Vineyard, hearing and deaf islanders alike grew up speaking sign language. This unique sociolinguistic adaptation meant that the usual barriers to communication between the hearing and the deaf, which so isolate many deaf people today, did not exist.

Review
When is deafness neither handicap nor stigma? When, as this remarkable book recounts, the entire hearing community learns from childhood to be bilingual in conventional speech and sign language, and when the deaf are wholly integrated into the community's social, economic, religious, and recreational life...A vivid ethnography of a hearing community's full acceptance of, and adaptation to, deafness. Groce also constructs a fascinating ethnohistory of this genetic disorder. (Choice)

Beautiful and fascinating...I was so moved by Groce's book that the moment I finished it I jumped in the car, with only a toothbrush, a tape recorder, and a camera--I had to see this enchanted island for myself. (Oliver Sacks New York Review of Books)

Brilliantly argued and lively...[Groce's] information consists of the oral history she herself garnered from some 50 witnesses, almost all more than 75 years old, and the documents in print and in manuscript that cross-check and extend their first-hand accounts. Human genetic theory, ethnographic counterparts and a clear-eyed account of social attitudes are the analytic tools that form her brief and telling work...[A] persuasive and compassionate investigation. (Scientific American)

Fascinating...Groce accomplishes much just by pointing out that "handicaps" are something a culture creates, and thus the joint responsibility of us all. That's what places this book squarely within the best tradition of anthropological writing, and makes it both moving and encouraging. (Village Voice)

Inspiring and interesting
By absent_minded_prof
This is one of my favorite books of all time. Originally written as an ethnographic study, it is also completely readable for a non-professional popular audience. Basically, it is the story of the islanders of Martha's Vineyard, a large island off the coast of Massachusetts. The islanders originally came from the same 2 or 3 boatloads of colonists from England, by way of Boston and Scituate, from a region in Kent which already seems to have had a high incidence of hereditary deafness. Due to the geographic isolation of the island, recessive genes for deafness, which were already prominent in the original Kentish colonists, came increasingly to the fore. As the proportions of islanders who happened to be deaf gradually increased, what was the islanders' answer? Not shunning the deaf. Far from it. Rather, a tradition arose that EVERYONE on the island, deaf or hearing, simply learned sign language as children!
This book is full of fascinating little anecdotes, about how island society worked to include its deaf members. For example, we learn about families and friends, some deaf and some hearing, who would regularly sit next to each other in church. The hearing members would sign the sermons to their deaf friends. Or, sometimes groups of people who could hear perfectly well might be together, for whatever reason, and they might happen to converse by signing just as much as in spoken English. Everyone spoke both languages.
Some of my favorite parts of the book focus on the benefits of signing. For example, perhaps two neighbors wanted to converse, while being separated by 200 yards of noisy space, made vocally impenetrable by sounds of surf and sea. Whether they were deaf or hearing, they could get out their spyglasses (this was a 19th century whaling community, where spyglasses were in every household) and sign to each other across the distance while viewing each other through the magnification afforded by the spyglasses. One entertaining anecdote tells of two young men, who could hear perfectly well, who would use their signing ability to pick up girls off-island. They would pique the girls' interest in them by signing amongst themselves, and would claim that one of them was deaf. After they had secured the girls' interest, they would put on a lengthy, well-practiced charade of deafness to keep the gils curious about them. Do they ever let on that they can really hear? You'll have to read the book to find out! Bwa ha ha haaaa ( that's the sound of an evil laugh).
Those are a few minor anecdotes. The whole book is packed with stories like that, and it's endlessly amazing. The last couple of chapters make excellent, general points about the human issues raised in the book, and about how we as a society think about the "handicapped" -- perhaps, as Dr. Groce points out, we should not use the term in the first place.
Anyway, I'm really pleased to call attention to this book. I wish it were more widely known. If you're reading this because you linked to my reviewer's page from my review of "Jeepers Creepers," or something at a similar level, then, well, I'm just happy you're reading about this valuable story as well as "Jeepers Creepers." Two thumbs up.

Everyone Here Spoke Sign Language is a wonderful look at the Deaf population on Martha's Vineyard and the extent to which it was integrated with the Hearing community. Groce's research is supurb and she draws interesting and relevant conclusions. I highly recommend this book to anyone studying ASL/Deaf Studies or someone who is just interested in the topic.

An interesting look at a unique deaf cultue
By H
"Everyone Here Spoke Sign Language" is a look at the effect of a large deaf population on Martha's Vineyard. Though a dry read at times, this book gives an interesting look at how for once in the history of deaf culture the *hearing* adapted for the deaf instead of vice versa. While most people might assume that the large deaf population would force a hefty amount of deaf people to adapt to hearing life, the opposite was actually true; the brilliance of Martha's Vineyard was that nearly all hearing people knew sign language to some degree.
The book analyses cultural impact of the large deaf population within the Vineyard's communities, which was biologically caused by the genetic predisposition for deafness. The book, largely written like an anthropological study, focuses on both physical and cultural aspect of the deafness in the communities. However, the most interesting implications within the book are those discussing deaf and hearing interrelations.

Marvelous

Coming from someone who likes words and has the ability to find pleasure from just opening the dictionary or thesaurus and reading it for relaxation, it is a great dictionary. Furthermore, it's for the person who wants a nice, hefty dictionary that actually has EVERY word that you'd need. I found it a champion for those words that you pass in everyday life and just pinch you to walk over to the shelf to look them up. This dictionary is also very easy to understand, it's authoritative, direct and resolute. Oxford truly does provde the concrete foundation of the english language. Be warned that it is not huge in size--if that matters, but it is FULL of words in a small space with MEDIUM print size that is clear and bold.
In short, don't be fooled by its marketing as a paperback, it's CHEEPER than a forty dollar oldie that taxes you your verticle space, and suits people with poor sight.

Newspaper like quality pages. Naturally moist thumbs when dragged hard enough will smear the ink. When flipping the pages the chemicals of the ink get stuck between your nostrils for some time. And though your fingers don't get smudged, the smell gets stuck on your fingers as well.

Oh but the information is wonderful.

Keep in mind this is the British English version, which replaces words like diarrhea with "diarrhoea"

Review
"One great way to welcome newbie parents to the parenting club is to show them, through hilarious comics, just what they can expect ... Brian Gordon has the perfect book of comics for the occasion, Fowl Language: Welcome To Parenting.” (Hollis Miller, Huffington Post)

“'Fowl Language': Dad's cartoons show what it's REALLY like to be a parent” - Today.com (Today.com)

“Gordon dives deep into all the parts of parenting that are painful and aggravating and WHYDON’TYOUMAKEANYSENSE!? But somehow because everyone looks like a cute duck, he makes you laugh instead of cry.” - Jonathan H. Liu, GeekDad  (Jonathan H. Liu, GeekDad)

"If there’s one dad in particular who perfectly captures these terrible yet humorous moments in parenting, it’s Brian Gordon." - Babble.com  (Babble.com)

About the Author
"A million years ago, Brian Gordon spent his time staying out late, hitting the clubs and eating at fancy restaurants.

And then suddenly … CHILDREN. While he loved being a dad more than anything else, he also noticed that at times, parenting can be a total crap-fest.

In the summer of 2013, Brian began drawing Fowl Language as a fun (and often profane) way to vent his frustrations. After getting laid off from his job as a greeting card artist, he decided to pursue the comic full-time. His work quickly became an Internet viral sensation, and is shared regularly by millions of people all over the world."

Utterly Brilliant
By Jessica S
Let me start by saying that I agree with previous reviews in that I wish that this published book would have contained the bonus panels, and that it would have had content that wasn't accessible on the internet for free. That being said, I can't give this anything less than five stars for many reasons. Brian Gordon is so talented in so many ways. His work captures the experience of parenting, and it does so in a very honest way. I have seen criticisms that these comics include a lot of foul language. I guess some people missed the title: "Fowl Language." But the language is part of what connects this work to many loving, but human, parents. This book brings out so many aspects of the parenting experience: the exasperation, the humor, the deep emotional impact of these crazy but lovable little people, and how deeply rewarding all these experiences are. I laughed. I cried. I felt like I was invited into a community of warm fuzzies and good laughs.

I know that a lot of these comics are available on the internet to view for free. But it is so nice to have a book. It's easy reading. It's a book you can touch. And importantly, it supports this artist and author and his wonderful family. Our society often gets stuck on wanting everything for free, and getting angry when we have to pay actual money for something. The fact is, nothing is truly free. People have to work to create these creative masterpieces that we enjoy. And they have to eat and pay bills and provide for their families while they do it. If you enjoy Brian Gordon's work, please buy his book. He deserves compensation for all that he has done for those of us that treasure his work.

I gave this book to my husband for Father's Day. He loves it. Every time he opens the pages, I get to witness so many laughs and smiles. I will buy every Fowl Language Comics that will ever be published. It is very worth it!

Brian Gordon- Psychic Mind Reader... Or Stalker!
By sailorgirl85
I fully believe that Brian stalks my son and I on a daily basis. If not, he's psychic in some sense. (sarcasm)
This book is my life story with my one child. Let me tell you something: parenting- it's difficult, but rewarding at the same time.
Brian knows his stuff. This book is totally worth buying and you can look at it for years just to remind yourself that you aren't alone in the parenting struggles. Us parents all go through stuff like this. If we didn't then we wouldn't be parents!

Brian, thank you for the laughs! Keep up the good work and I look forward to reading and buying the next book!

This.Is.Awesome!
By bekaye
Brian Gordon has connected with parenthood the same way Scott Adams connected with office dynamics in the workplace. The love, the fears, the flaws, the contradictions, the doubts, the aggravations, and the love involved in raising children are all demonstrated on each and every page of Brian's new book (yes, I wrote love twice, and you know why). If you are currently a parent with little ones, you will start to wonder where Brian put the camera in your house because you will see yourself in these pages.

This book itself is also beautiful. Each and every page is in wonderful color.

One "heads up" for the prospective buyer, please notice the name of the comic, "Fowl Language." This book is intended for adults, not all pages can be shared with your kids. There is a little salty or "fowl" language to be found here (just like in real life). If you are interested in the book, go to [...]to see what this comic is all about.

I will be purchasing more copies as gifts for friends and family members who decide "parenting" will be their new hobby.
