I absolutely loved it. Now

These was my first Shelly Laurenston book. I absolutely loved it. Now, I'm doing a review now because I never one at the time...years ago. I re-read it today and decided to go ahead and review it as well.

Sara, Sara, Sara...she is scary and a total bad *** b*tch. Thats how you describe her...seriously. Zack, Zack, Zack...can be scary...total a-hole, albeit a hot one and in protection mode for Sara. He can't stay away. He's an Alpha male and will be taking over the Magnus Pack soonish. After a little fun times at a party involving Zack and Sara...things change for her. Like she turns into a wolf kind of change. She is beyond pissed and scared. She is a bit mentally imbalanced but it totally works in her favor. Her friends Miki and Angelina are equally bitchy but for different reasons. They are sooo fun to read. When Zack and Sara first do the deed as in *ex it is VIOLENT! Whew...man that is hot! Ha. She has to fight for her life cause those damn cats wont leave her be. Is she strong enough to be Alpha Female along with Zack? Will she survive it all and secure her place? This series is sorta intertwined with her Pride series. We get little cameos here and there. Love this book and series. I love Shelly Laurenston aka G A Aiken. She does awesome work and you will laugh your butt off. Check her out!

So....asterisks I had to use cause otherwise Amazon wouldnt let me post my review. Not like they were huge cuss words but whatevs.

Pack Challenge

This book is the first in the Magnus Pack series and it tells of Zach and Sara's story. Sara has been working in a motorcyle shop all her life after her mean grandmother dies. Unbeknownist to her she is a shifter living in a shifter community except for her two best friends Miki and Angelina who are also clueless about their town. Sara was in an accident when she was little and walks with a limp; all of this happens before she reaches the age to shift and therefore it keeps her from being able to shift or heal her wounds. This accident also kills her parents and she goes to stay with her grandmother who resented the Magnus Pack for taking her daughter away and letting her get killed. So she keeps Sara away from them and threatens to kill any who come after Sara thus keeping her in the dark about her shifter status and community. When Zach rolls into town with his alpha all heck breaks lose and the next thing you know Sara is walking around without a limp(with some help from Zach), finds her mate, and fends off a pride of lions who are out to kill her. Shelly Laurenston has never disappointed me with her storyline, humor, or the suspense you can find in her shifter series and I can't wait till she writes more. Well done Shelly Laurenston please write more I am still waiting on Nikolai's brother story- you know the one that likes Zach's sister.

Top 9 secrets, out of 10

It's nice if you get to share a message that will change the world. Sometimes, you simply have to show people how to fill out a form. Sometimes, there just isn't that much room for passion. Sometimes, it can get really old being told One. More. Time. that you have to have "Passion!" in all that you do.

Yawn. Passion gets boring after a while, when you keep having your face rubbed in it.

I was more than a bit disappointed that the one fully-controllable, massively important factor in presentation success was hidden.

Practice.

You don't get on the TED stage without delivering the talk A LOT. At least 100 times, is what I've seen elsewhere. When I look at the TOC, there is no mention of "practice." It turns out that the topic of practice is presented, but under the heading, "have a conversation." Huh? The chapter goes on to talk about practice, but why hide this dirty necessity under a different label?

Practice is NOT conversation. I can follow the train of thought; that one should be able to deliver the material as easily as a conversation flows. But I disagree. Conversations can ramble, go off track, contain sidebars. Good presentations don't.

Most "bad" presentations could be markedly improved with a little bit of practice and feedback. Five times, out of your mouth, out loud, to the cat the first three times if you're shy. Good-enough public speakers know this; newbies think that just looking at the material is enough.

The more important the presentation, the more practice, rather than any other variable, will improve the delivery and reception. It's strange to me that this element of presentation success was not labelled as such. Maybe it looks too much like hard work?

Great title, good book

I was pleasantly surprised.

This book's catchy title uses TED brand equity just as feeble investment articles mention Warren Buffet in the title. Add "{an odd numeral} Secrets..." to the subtitle...and I was ready for lots of sizzle with very little steak.

But Gallo is not a blowhard. He knows his subject. Leaning the book so heavily on TED talks might seem like grand larceny, but it makes perfect sense. TED's rich and varied examples are a perfect way to learn, and they're at your fingertips, thanks to YouTube.

If you want to be an interesting presenter -- or just a more interesting person -- this is a good start. Even if they are not "Secrets," Gallo's classic and correct points add up to a solid, easily digested book.

Some of the main points, such as "Think outside the box," "Tell stories," "Create jaw-dropping moments," "Add some humor," require craftsmanship and practice. This book does not get you to the finish line. It shows you good examples and points you in the right direction.

Harold Geneen is the best practical manager and management author (Guru) of all times, and like Chester Barnard with his classic book on organization and management who wrote "The Functions of the Executive," Geneen's book is an invaluable contribution to management thought and action. "Managing" by Geneen is an extremely valuable book, which teaches us how to manage "effectively". Not a single line is without practical emphasis on knowlege, skills and attitude gained from his own experience and solid conviction. All BBA and MBA students must read it along with their management texts and they will find it extremely useful in their later professional jobs.

Wow, let me just start off by saying - I am once again honored to have received a copy for review.
As most of you may have noticed my reviews has been someone spread out a lot more than my usual 2 reviews a week, if not more. I had found myself in a funk lately and have been reading a lot slower than usual...Than my good friend and Author of Incendio, Stephanie Constante sent me a copy for review, of course I took the review and began to read it...I can honestly say that Incendio has taken me out of my funk!

This book had me flying through the pages to get to the end but once I was at the end I just couldn't believe it! I was sad that the book ended, though it was mainly my fault because I just couldn't put the book down. We find Leito has changed a lot from the first book and mainly focuses on her as she struggles to learn about her new "life" and understand her new abilities, as well as save Aidan. You can tell that Leito's character in this book really shows just how strong she is and whether this sounds too feminist or not, I honestly love how the girl is not a damsel in distress that needs to be saved though she does get help from her friends, I never once thought of her as weak or anything but as a strong-willed woman that is willing to do anything to save the one she loves.

If you haven't read Baptism of Fire than you need to be sure to get your hands on it and read that first before continuing onto Incendio.

I honestly love the way that Stephanie Constante writes, she dives into a different reality, giving us hot studs to haunt our thoughts, woman willing to fight for the ones they love and of course develops a story plot of adventure, suspense and romance perfectly blended all into one.

You will not be disappointed with her books and I look forward to see what she has in store for us in the future!

Amazing page turner

Stephanie Constante has done it again! Incendio is the second in the Draconi series.
This is a love with war type of story. and it truly highlights the meaning that love can conquer all. Where Baptism of Fire left off Leito was trying to become a dragon to be able to save the one she loves, Aiden. While Aiden is absent for part of the book he is being held and tortured. Leito is learning how to do some amazing things all while trying to be able to bring out her inner dragon and put it back. she struggles but with the help from her friends she manages fairly well. Leito goes from living as a human with dragon abilities to living as a dragon full time in order to save Aiden. Eventually Leito can change flawlessly as well as fly. This book Leito also makes an unexpected trip back to her village which kept me on the edge of my seat turning pages as fast as I could! I recommend this series to everyone it is extremely well written and has love and action who could ask for more ;)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Acclaimed science fiction writer Poul Anderson (1926-2001) was born in Bristol, Pennsylvania. After earning a degree in physics from the University of Minnesota, he moved to San Francisco where he lived with his wife and writing partner, Karen.

Anderson was a prolific writer with more than one hundred titles to his name. He wrote from a unique position and point of view having a deep understanding of science as well as a keen interest in Norse mythology. While Anderson had written some fantasy novels, including The Broken Sword (1954), Three Hearts and Three Lions (1961), and A Midsummer Tempest (1974), his reputation rests primarily on the strength of his science fiction.

Anderson's first science fiction novel was the 1954 Brain Wave, and it is considered by most to be a classic in the genre. Anderson liked to write series of novels, including his popular Time Patrol works beginning with 1981's Guardians of Time. He also wrote novellas and many short stories.

To his credit, Anderson has numerous science fiction awards including three Nebula awards, seven Hugo awards and the SFWA Grand Master Award (1997). But it is perhaps for the 1970 novel Tau Zero that Anderson will be best remembered. Anderson's last novel, Genesis (2000), won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award (2001) for best science fiction novel of the year.

An IQ of 400+ for everybody in the world

What if - - - . What if earth, after millennia, leaves a part of space in which an unknown phenomena has (up untill then) dampened the IQ of the earthlings? What if everyone's IQ suddenly jumps up with 400%?
Morons become "normal", pigs get smart and the great masses of normal people become geniuses over night, all bilions of them. Are they glad, can they cope with it, and what does it do to society? Poul Anderson explored these questions in 1954, in a book that is still fresh today. He succeeds very well in describing the changes in thinking and feeling patterns in people that evolve from normal to incredible high IQ. A good and interesting read, that is highly probable, once you have accepted the premisse. It'll set your mind in motion.

Intelligence enhancement: gift & curse.

I've read this novel when I was a teenager in the mythical Argentinean sci-fi magazine "Más Allá". It was published in the last two volumes edited. I've treasured my collection for more than 40 years. Time and again I reread the most outstanding novels and short stories kept there as in a time shell.

"Brain Wave" is one of the best novels written by Poul Anderson.

The argument is great: suddenly all sentient beings start to change. Everybody is more intelligent each day. Cattle start to avoid slaughter. Horses refuse to be saddled. Brock, a moron peasant, start to have lucid insights and want to read.

The rest of humankind tries to cope with emotional disturbance, weird dreams, creativity shocks, religious surges and many more strange "symptoms".

Anderson analyzes this impossible situation and shows the reader a kaleidoscopic maddening universe. Little by little things began to fall in place and a new civilization emerges from chaos.

The follow up of the story is done by some key characters ranging from the retarded Brock, thru the ordinary housewife distressed by the new unsolicited abilities till her scientific husband and his neighbors.

The novel has an optimistic conclusion as was styled in the blessed `50s sci-fi.

Take a romp thru it, you won't be disappointed!

Optimistic, old-school hard SF

The Earth moves out of some kind of force field, and suddenly, all electromagnetic and -chemical processes; not only do intruments go out of wack, everyone and everything with a brain triples in intelligence. For some individuals, this is liberating, albeit terrifying; some crack under the strain of such a jump. The human race as a whole, indeed, finds itself wondering what wo do with itself. This is a pretty good piece of speculative fiction, the idea taken to the limit. There are great bits, like intelligent chimps rising elephants and teming with African tribes; the story of Brock, the one-time moron, is particularly resonant. Overall, it's certainly a supremely optimistic view. As one character in the book notes, just because people are smart doesn't stop them from doing stupid things like speeding or smoking; nor does intelligence always erase prejudice. Yet Anderson envisions a human race that, due solely to higher intelligence, (after a lengthy period of great strife) transcends war, patriotism, and borders - indeed, seems at the end to have formed into some unified collective mind.
